THE MAKING OF
‘ONCE UPON A PLANET’
Once upon a planet in the history of
the world
There was a song that became the favourite
tune of every boy and girl
On every land across the globe they
sang it with optimism and hope
and everybody that heard it had to
sing along.
Oh! Yes and …
Once upon a planet when those children
sang their song
They sang it loud and they sang it
proud they sang it confident and strong
It was a tale by human beings All about being human beings
So come on everybody and help us sing
our song.
And we sing …
We are all humans, humans are we
we live on planet earth as she spins
around in the galaxy.
When something's bad we ban it,
because we love our planet
it's the home of humanity.
Once upon a planet the oceans were all
clean
the weather was fine and the earth was
rich and the countryside was green.
The air was fresh and pure, the sky
was so much bluer
but we changed that when we came on
the scene.
Oh! yes we ...
let our poison waste drain into
rivers lakes and seas
we changed the weather patterns when
we chopped down all the trees.
We filled the air with our pollution,
but there is one solution
and we call it ECOLOGY!
And we sing ...
We are all humans, humans are we …
we live on planet earth as she spins
around in the galaxy.
When something's bad we ban it,
because we love our planet
it's the home of humanity.
Once upon a planet at the edge of the galaxy
at the end of the age of
ignorance and the start of a brand new
century.
At the birth of a new generation, and
the dawn of a one earth nation
of this multi-cultural family.
Oh! yes we,
put aside our differences and we found
we were the same
then we put it all down to experience
because nobody is to blame.
When we think global and act local,
the world becomes our focal point.
we
can heal the earth in creations name,
And we sing
We are all humans, humans are
we
we
live on planet earth as she spins around in the galaxy.
When something's bad we ban it,
because we love our planet
it's the home of humanity.
We are all humans, humans are
we
we
live on planet earth as she spins around in the galaxy.
When something's bad we ban it,
because we love our planet
it's the home of humanity.
(Music slows with a vocal retardation)
Once upon a planet some children sang
a song
That soon became so popular the whole
world sang along.
It was sung by every nation at a
worldwide celebration
By a choir that was ten billion people
strong.
And we
sang …
We are all humans, humans are
we ..
we
live on planet earth as she spins around in the galaxy.
When something's bad we ban it,
because we love our planet
it's the home of humanity.
(Repeat chorus)
We
are all humans humans are we we live on
planet earth as she spins around in the galaxy.
When something's bad we ban it,
because we love our planet
it's the home … of humanity
(Music slows down with a vocal
retardation on the word, …
Hu … man … I … I … I … I … tee … ee … ee … ee … ee … ee … eeeee!)
Busking with Emu and Morty at the Paddington markets in the eighties Steve Tripp is a singer songwriter and street entertainer who hails from Adelaide and is now based in Sydney. The many selections in his catalogue of original songs were demo recorded on analogue equipment way back when, with the help of his busking friends and the likes of Kevin Borich, Steve Williams (Wa Wa Nee), Peter Head, Toni Allaylis, Jeff Duff and others. Steve is currently re-recording three albums worth of his material with more modern musical arrangements. All the tracks are the sole property of mr. Tripp and they are all as yet unpublished. IN STEVE'S OWN WORDS
‘Once upon a planet’ started life as a happy go lucky folk song that was penned back in the days when I was a freewheeling street entertainer and an environmental activist. Over time other songs with a similar theme emerged and I found myself juggling them around to fit into some kind of a storyline. A wonderful cast of characters came to occupy my thoughts and eventually each of them was assigned an active role in my fun loving eco- adventure. With the rise of the extinction rebellion movement and the school strikes my dusty old ‘Once upon a planet’ folder was eagerly pulled from the bottom draw and re-examined. I was driven by the knowledge that my story was closely related to the student rebellion and it was as relevant as it had been when it was first conceived. I embarked on a re-write and endeavoured to make it more contemporary, so that it might trend with a younger audience in these turbulent times we now live in.
WORK IN PROGRESS
The current state of play is such that my once dormant and forgotten script has now become my creative obsession and my life's mission is to get it out there in the world as soon as it is humanly possible. As if by magic my quest has recently been greatly enhanced with the arrival of a skilled musician come audio technician in response to a help wanted ad I posted. The newly formed collaboration of myself and Dale Ryan (ex Outline) is the proverbial marriage made in heaven and we have agreed on a combined project to re-record my entire catalogue from the ground up from analogue to the digital format. The tracks from 'Once upon a planet' are our prime focus and our goal is to create a broadcast quality soundtrack album for the musical. Prior to the acquisition of financial backing to further develop the musical the best I can hope for is what I have already achieved and to compliment this I have started working on an archival video documenting the quest to bring the show to completion. The video presentation will be called ... The Making of 'Once upon a planet'.
The theme song to the musical proved quite convincingly that it has youth appeal when it and others from my collection were learned and performed by a pre-teen busking band from Nimbin called 'The Wall'ys'. Emu and Morty are no longer with us and my efforts with this project are a hands on tribute to their memory.

A brief outline of the story
Arty is a ten year old schoolkid and a junior Rainbow Peace Corp volunteer. He lives with his family at a massive waste disposal complex in the remote South Australian desert, where his father is a plant foreman. Since early in the establishment of the toxic waste community an army of protestors has been camped outside of the secured perimeter and all of that time they have argued that there shouldn't be a facility operating there because it's better if we don't produce the toxic waste in the first place. Arty has a lucid dream in which he meets an inter-dimensional traveller called 'the Glitter sing' and together they journey to the 'Land of infinite possibilities'. Arty is introduced to the 'Queen of the Nature Spirits' whereupon he is assigned the task of inspiring the people of the earth to switch to a clean and green lifestyle. On waking from his dream he is filled with a new sense of purpose and in the company of his fellow school friends they abscond from the settlement and stow away with a convoy of protestors who are on their way to Junkville to confront the owners of the waste complex at the C.O.G. (Church of Greed) headquarters. Along the way they do battle with massive terrain resource harvesters known as the 'Metal Skin Creepers' and on their arrival in Junkville they team up with the founder of the Rainbow Peace Corp crystal Dreamline. Flip Casino is a mega rich and successful rock star and he is Arty's all time hero. When Crystal is kidnapped by Ben.T. Cross from the Church of Greed Flip persuades his legions of fans to depart the Junkville stadium and storm the C.O.G. headquarters to free his sweetheart. An ongoing stock market battle between the environment friendly sector and all that's unsustainable comes to a head when Ben.T. Cross is exposed for his wrong doings and his corporate empire crumbles to the applaud of all who aspire to live in a safe and clean world.
